Walker Chapel Preschool

What is the Walker Chapel Preschool Program?

Walker Chapel Preschool is a non profit, religiously exempt, and regulated by the State of Virginia and Arlington County, preschool program. The program was founded by Walker Chapel in 1970 and continues to serve as an outreach program of the church under the auspices of the education committee. The preschool is covered by the public liability insurance of Walker Chapel UMC.  An Advisory Committee comprised of parents, preschool staff and church members administers the program.

Walker Chapel Preschool Philosophy

The preschool program fosters social, emotional, educational and physical development through both unstructured and organized play.  The curriculum includes guest speakers (e.g., a policeman, a fireman), music, movement, science, French and other enrichment programs.  Parents help run the program by getting involved in the Parents' Committee and various classroom opportunities.

About the Staff and the Parents Committee

All of our teachers and assistants have extensive educational backgrounds with experience as a teacher, parent or both.   They are certified in basic first aid and CPR and are all experienced parents.  In addition, the teachers at Walker Chapel all participate in frequent courses, workshops and conferences to keep current in their fields. All staff is also certified annually by a physician to be free from any disability which would prevent them from caring for children.

A Parents' Committee organizes guest speakers, fund raising events, and facilitates communication between staff, church and parents.  Input from parents is an integral part of the committee process and helps the Committee set goals and develop programs for the preschool.  Additionally, Committee meetings, surveys, and personal conversations serve as means for parents to express their opinions.  All parents are encouraged to attend meetings and actively participate in the governing process.

 Class and Facility Description

Our facilities include large classrooms for the two, three, and four-year-old.  A basement “Fellowship Hall" provides indoor play space and an area for tricycle riding.  We also have an outside fenced playground.  The preschool provides a daily snack; children bring their own lunches.

The following table provides a description of each class, including the days of attendance, the adult/child ratio and age requirements.  The two and three year old classes are held from 9:15 a.m.   12:45 p.m and the four year class is from 9:15 a.m – 2:30 p.m.  Note: Our two-year-old class will be dismissed at noon from September to Halloween.

Tuition and Registration

Monthly tuition for each class is as follows:

 Program 2-year old  3-year old 4-year old
   Tuition  $390 $430 $945

Registration, if accepted, will be $75 per child.

To apply, parents should download an application/wait list form on the left and submit the completed form with a check payable to Walker Chapel Preschool with the non-refundable application fee of $40.  This form should be mailed to Walker Chapel Preschool, 4102 N. Glebe Rd, Arlington, VA 22207.  The deadline to return applications to us is January 21, 2017.  You will hear from us regarding your acceptance or wait list status by February 12, 2017.  Please do not contact us before this date.

If accepted you must secure your child's place in the Walker Chapel program by paying the balance of the Registration Fee and a deposit of one month’s tuition within 30 days of acceptance.  The deposit will be applied to the June tuition.

For families enrolling more than one child, a ten- percent tuition discount is given on the tuition of the younger child.

If you need to withdraw your child from the program during the year, we require 30 days notice.  The deposit will be refunded only if we can replace your child in the program.  If your child leaves after March 1, the deposit will not be refunded because it is extremely difficult to replace a student in the last months of the school year.  You are also responsible for tuition during extended absences from school.

Class Calendar

Classes run from September through June.  We follow the Arlington County school calendars a guide.  However we may deviate from the calendar on some school holidays.
