Lent

As we embark on the reflective journey of Lent, we invite you to join us for a congregational Bible study, where for five-weeks we will take a deep-dive into the raising of Lazarus.  For five weeks in worship, we will study the raising of Lazarus. The time will include teaching and preaching, along with opportunities for discussion and reflection. In addition to the holy scriptures, we will use Come Forth by James Martin as a guide.

On the raising of Lazarus, Martin writes, "the story of Lazarus can help us let go of whatever prevents our coming closer to God, the experience fresh ways of living, and most of all, to experience new life. His story can help us reflect more deeply on the ways that Jesus free us from all that keeps us bound, from all the that keeps us unfree, from all that keeps us from walking into the sunlight. Lazarus's story helps us understand what it means to hear God say to us, 'Come forth!'"

Consider joining us before worship at 9:30 AM in the Barnett Room for an even deeper dive into the study. All are welcome.

Every year, Walker Chapel collects a special offering, above and beyond our tithes and weekly offerings, to support organizations the Chapel feels are aligned with the kingdom-building work we have been called to do.

Ash Wednesday 2024 We will begin the season of Lent with an Ash Wednesday service on February 14, 2024, at 7:30 PM at Mount Olivet (1500 North Glebe Road). Pastor Teer will be preaching on Isaiah 58:1-12 and Matthew 6. With the imposition of ashes and the observance of a lenten discipline, we will begin the season of Lent, remembering that our Lenten practices are one of the ways God repents us and are a means of Grace.
