Shelly Ballard

Pastoral Intern

Shelly is a second year student at Wesley Theological Seminary and in the certification process toward being a certified candidate. While at Walker Chapel she is looking forward to getting know us and be in ministry with the congregation.

She moved from Wake Forest, NC to Purcellville, VA in 1998 and attended schools in Purcellville and Hamilton graduating from Loudoun Valley High School as an Honor student in 2008. After school activities included Girl Scouts, softball and 4H- non-ownership sheep club. In high school she was also in Marching Band and played the tuba. Shelly earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Environmental Science at George Mason University in 2013. While attending George Mason she was actively involved with Mclean Bible Church and acted as prayer leader for the GMU college ministry for one of the years.

As a child and youth Shelly was involved with mission activities at her church (Harmony UMC).  Our youth group went to House of the Carpenter in Wheeling, WV for multiple years where they worked with fixing houses for low-income families and ran the vacation bible school for children. As a child and youth her family gleaned for apples and sweet potatoes for low-income families. In high school she also went to Jamaica to help build homes and interacted with the community.

After graduating George Mason, Shelly was a summer intern at HUMC for the pastor and the youth group leader. She also led the Reaching New People committee for the first few years at HUMC. Mission activities have really led her to Wesley Theological Seminary and to seek out this path of certification.
